Natura 2000Pena Maseira

This place is oriented along the line of the desirable green corridor between the Macizo Central Orense and the large Portuguese Natural Park of Montesinho, which covers the whole Lusitanian line from Zamora to Orense. In the Galician part it includes the Esculqueira mountain range (1,149 m) and the well known Fraga dos tres reinos (1,004 m), a point of union of the triple historical border of the medieval kingdoms of Portugal, Galicia and León. It is recognized for the broad masses of chestnut trees that form in this region of middle mountain. The highland dominates the scrubland that hosts stable populations of wolf and roe deer.
